In our previous post, we spoke about the Shumah (tax assessment form). We spoke about what it is, where to obtain it from, and how to obtain it. The Shumah is absolutely necessary if you are applying for a discount for your Arnonah tax. It is the only way the Iriyah will know that you have earned an amount that allows for a discount. In this post, we take a look at some of the other important documents you’ll need when you go through to obtain your discount for Arnonah. Remember, the Arnonah is the yearly tax that must be paid by every person who is living in an apartment in Israel. It is paid at the very least every two months or a full year in advance. If you cannot afford it, you may be entitled to a discount. You’ll need to bring a number of things with you when you apply for your discount:

You’ll be going through to the Iriyah which can be found in Jerusalem at the address: 1 Kikar Safrah. See map below:

Here’s what you need to take with you. Without these things, you may be sent back to obtain them without the Iriyah doing anything to help you. Of course not all of these points may be applicable to your personal situation. Take what you need based on your situation:

  1. Contract (rent agreement) valid for the whole year or according to the dates of the discount requested
  2. A declaration by a Rav (who should be a Dayan [judge])/notary stating (if applicable):
Your wife was a housewife the last three months of year
       How the rent is paid
The amount of support you get from your family (parents)
  3. The Arnonah discount application form filled in completely
  4. If applicable – 3 salary stubs (pay slips) of your wife from October, November and December of last year
  5. Photocopies of the passports / IDs for all the family
  6. For foreign citizens – a valid visa (student / dependent / tourist / working)
  7. If the Arnonah bill is not under the applicant name – 2 copies of the contract + a letter from the owner stating when the previous renter vacated
  8. For children over the age of 18 – Ishur (statement of affirmation) from the Yeshiva / seminary where they learn and do not receive money, or other proofs of income

For Israeli citizens – Ishurim (statements of affirmation) from Bituach Leumi:

  1. Ishur of Havtachat Hachanasah (if you get). This is additional income support
  2. If both spouses are not working – דו”ח ריכוז מקומות עבודה. This is a report of all the places they have worked at.

If studying in a Yeshivah: An Ishur from the Yeshivah  with the amount of Chalukah (money given) for October, November and December of the previous year.
